What is the Tri-Council?
The Tri-Council consists of the dues-paying members
that are graduates of any of the three NGC Schools:
Environmental Studies School, Landscape Design
School and Gardening Study School. These
schools produce graduates who are prepared and
eligible to be consultants in those specific areas.
The separate councils of those graduates are
concentrations of individuals with special interests and training. The membership
overlaps and many are members of more than one council. In fact those who are
members of all three councils and the Flower Show
Judges Council are known as NGC Four Star
Members. Those who are Masters in all four
Councils are known as NGC Five Star Members.
The Environmental, Gardening, and Landscape Design
Consultants observed that the groups actually had
similar goals and a great deal in common. They
felt that working together as a combined group would
have greater numbers, could share a common meeting
time, and effectively use the combined energy of
“movers and shakers” in their areas of expertise.
Four years ago the three councils joined together
and they now meet under the umbrella of the FFGC
TRI-COUNCIL, sharing a common meeting time, just
before the FFGC Board of Directors meet.
However, the individual councils maintain their own
individual officers, by-laws and treasuries.
The Presidency of the Tri-Council rotates among the
Presidencies of the three councils. The
Tri-Council produces a yearbook, including all
members of the three councils and publish a
Tri-Council Newsletter three times a year, which is
distributed electronically. The members have
had a joint project each year which is supported by
all three councils. The Tri-Council has funded
scholarships for students to attend the UF Water Institute Symposium and has supported
the “Save Three Sisters’ Springs” program with
financial contributions. In 2011, a financial
contribution was given to the Delaware Federation of
Garden Clubs’ construction of a memorial garden
located at the Center for Families of the Fallen at
Dover Air Force Base.
