The Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs held another smashingly
successful Secret Gardens of the Emerald Coast tour on May 17th.
The weather was splendid and crowds thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Folks came dressed in garden hats, shorts and sun dresses - armed with
cameras to take it all in. Seven private gardens and courtyards
that lie tucked away in Southeast Pensacola opened their gates for
viewing. Fountains, music and art enhanced the landscapes.
Escambia County Master Gardeners were on hand to answer
questions. Refreshments and educational exhibits added to the
festive atmosphere. New informative brochures were handed out to
prospective members by PFGC President, Van Holt. Pat Bush chaired
the event.

The Milton Garden Club
celebrated it's 60th Anniversary with an afternoon Tea at the Garden
Center on Wednesday, May 28th. There are four circles in the
club, Morning Glory, Dogwood, Sarracenia and Twilight. Members
arrived wearing their "Sunday Best" including hats and gloves for the
party. Piano and harp music played while guests dined on cucumber
sandwiches, fruit, cake and raspberry tea among other goodies.
Proclamations from City Hall where read and FFGC President Cinny
O'Donnell was on hand to present the club with its Ruby Precious Metal
Certificate. National Garden Clubs' President, Barbara May, sent
her best wishes and a commemorative citation.
Other special guests were District I Director, Barbara Young and Charter Member, Bety Bamberg.

Rene’
van Rems, the internationally renown floral designer came to the
Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs’ Garden Center in March. He
demonstrated new European influenced design techniques. The
audience was entertained by his skill and engaging personality.
His designs were available for silent auction and refreshments were
served to the jovial crowd. Jpg Rene’ & friends -Jill

Rems set up for the design show.
The PFGC sold out their popular Education Series in February. The
presenters covered such topics as Hummingbirds, Seaside Gardening,
Designs without Flowers, etc. It was an all day program with four
sections to choose from in the morning and afternoon as well as a
general session for everyone. Morning refreshments and lunch were
provided. Judy Keliher chaired the event. Jpg Fred &

Amaryllis lovers flocked to DeFuniak Springs in November to hear Bill
Warren, from Ocala, tell about propagating and breeding the bulbs. He
sold nearly every bulb he brought with him while the 200+ guests
enjoyed lunch and buying tickets to the opportunity baskets. The
DeFuniak Springs Garden Club held their fourth annual Native Plant Sale
in March offering over 1,200 plants. Master gardeners were on hand to
answer questions and help with choices.

Navarre Garden Club hosted “Spring Fling” a Salad Tasting Luncheon
provided by several area restaurants on April 11. Plants and arts
& crafts were sold. The club is offering the new FFGC “Diggin’ It”
series open to the community. |

The Valparaiso Garden Club planted 18 memorial trees in Florida Park to
replace those lost in weather events of past years. The latest
tree to be planted was in honor of their Tree Keeper, John Harrison,
who watered all of the trees during last summer’s drought. They
are glad to report that the trees are all flourishing! Jpg 0316

The Green Thumb Garden Club of Santa Rosa Beach held their first
TableScape Show in February. Twenty tables were set and decorated
to CELEBRATE different occasions. Over $1,000 was raised for the
Gen Mercer Scholarship to be awarded to a Walton County high School or
college student majoring in horticulture or environment related
studies. It was chaired by Carol Saucier, June Carlon and Joyce
