Support the
research and cultivation of our wildflowers
by
purchasing the Florida State Wildflower License Plate.
Looking for and
finding
an unfamiliar wildflower and then determining it’s identity gives one a
great sense of gratification. Every time you go out you can find
new treasures…it’s amazing…the colors…the beauty…the intricate
structures, all occuring without our
assistance… God truly is

to encourage an increased use and knowledge of Florida native flowering
herbs, grasses and native plants in roadside and urban beautification
projects. The Foundation's goal is to increase availability of
native wildflower and plant choices that are not only attractive but
also give a greater sense—to visitors and residents alike—of the unique
and rich flora of the “Land of Flowers.”

Coreopsis and Rudbekia wildflower seeds were planted along the Hawthorne State Trail.
On a beauatiful morning, perfect for planting, Addie Lou Singleton came
to say a prayer so that the seeds will be blessed and grow happily for
us. Joan Prayor, Florida Federation of Garden Clubs
President, 2003 - 2005 , was present and Judy Greenberg, District V
Director joined us. JulieAnne Tabone of the Paynes Prairie State Park
had everything perfectly organized for us. We all had a good time.

Letter from Bob Farley, FDOT
A New Direction for the Department of Transportation
A new direction
for the Department of Transportation is taking place in District 3
concerning the wildflower program. We have identified 25 sites
throughout the district where we have found existing wildflower
populations worthy of preservation in rights of way of state
roads. This is a bit of a change in direction from the previous
focus of the wildflower program to maintain seeded plots, although many
seed plots will still remain.
The goal of the Department is to inform
the informed, those who are in the best position to advise and assist
in making the program a success. Early indications of success for
wild flower preservation are very encouraging; enclosed is a plant list
of identified species and photographs of the sites along SR65 in
Liberty County.
Please let me know when and where I might be able to present this program. We are very excited about the possibilities.

Seed Suppliers :
The Florida
grown
Florida native ecotype wildflower seeds are grown by a cooperative
group of farmers. The name of their organization is The Wildflower Seed
and Plant Growers Association, Inc. This group has approximately 9 to
13 growers that grow an assortment of Florida native species. You can
find more about their group on their website. Also I have
included
their e-mail for you. If you want bulk seeds contact them as soon as
possible for availability. If you want a smaller amount , less that 1
pound , or any mixes you can contact me. I also have small envelope
sizes that will plant a 4ft x 4ft area. Florida Federation of Garden
Clubs, “Wildflowers Matter”,
is a non- profit project to allow smaller amounts of Florida seeds to
be distributed throughout our state. Eventually the growers themselves
will market small envelopes commercially.
