The Garden Club of Lakeland, Inc.

The Garden Club of Lakeland, Inc. have Seven Circles and they participate in the Habiat for Humanity in one way or another.  When a house comes up to be landscaped a Circle does the job.  We dig the holes and plant the plants.  Each Circle that landscapes a house presents the new owner with a hose, sprinkler, fertalizer and advice as to how to take care of their new plants. This has been a very rewarding venture for The Garden Club of Lakeland, Inc. In 1995 The Habitat for Humanity houseing project began. Gloriosa Circle was asked to landscape these homes.  In 1999 The Garden Club of Lakeland Inc. Board voted to adopt the project and asked all circle to contribute and help.  As of July 22, 2007  50 homes have been landscaped.

The Circles work with the Lakeland Parks and recreation, who provide many of our plants.  The Circle members grow plants in their gardens for the homes. The Sunshine Nursery has provided some annuals for the homes.  Home Depoe has also helped with the purchase of mulch by giving us a discounted rate on mulch.  Kathy Rubo, President of the Gloriosa Circle heads up the Habitat for Humanity project for the Garden Club of Lakeland, Inc. Board.

We have two more homes to be landscaped one in Ausust and one in September. This is an ongoing project that we do as the homes are completed.  Lakeland Habitat for Humanity is very actively building homes so we will continue to be busy landscaping these homes.
