National Garden Clubs, Inc. has designated the first full week in June of each year as National Garden Week.  The dates for the next two years will be June 1 - 7, 2008 and June 7 - 13, 2009.  National Garden Week is a fun week during the year and many things can be done in such a short time.  Clubs should plan a year in advance as most Florida Clubs end their activities in mid May.

Suggestions are as follows: Get local stores to contribute potted plants (i.e. Wal-Mart, Lowes and Home Depot)to be presented to The Chamber of Commerce, County Library, Local Hospital,  your city and county.  Have the Mayor sign a proclamation with as many of your members present as possible.  It is important to have publicity for all local papers.  Also have several  gardens designated for tours.  Plant a tree in a City Park with Youth involved. Do not forget your senior citizens.  Deliver as many flower arrangements to them as possible. As you deliver these flowers, you may have green and white streamers which promotes public awareness.

Publicity is the most important key to the successful promotion of National Garden Week.

Plan an activity each day and apply for National Award #53 and FFGC Award #66.
