The 2007-2009 FFGC President’s theme is FOCUS ON FLORIDA.  Let’s FOCUS ON FLORIDA by FOCUSING ON TREES.  Hurricanes have claimed many of our trees the last few years so let’s FOCUS on replenishing them.

T  TREES are treasurers; so let’s really FOCUS on them and how important they are to our environment. They provide us with the oxygen we need to breathe, help purify our water, provide food and shelter for birds and  wildlife, remove air and noise pollutants, increase property value, prevent soil erosion, add soil nutrients, provide wood for our homes,  furniture, and paper products, and provide shade which saves energy.

R  RECORD AND REPORT all plantings, give a-ways, and sales on the TREE PLANTING RECORD which is in the President’s Kit.  Please give name of trees and number planted at each location listed on the Record  then enter the grand total of  all planted, given a-way or sold.  Remember if the plantings are not  reported directly to this Chairman by the deadline on Tree Planting Record, we do not receive credit for them.

E  ENJOY learning about TREES.  Learn botanical as well as common names, learn how to select TREES and how to select planting locations, learn how to plant and maintain TREES.  Contact your local Florida Division of Forestry, County Extension Service, and National Arbor Day Foundation for Information.

E  EARN  an award by entering a Book of Evidence.  Plant trees, take pictures, keep records, and apply for an  award.   Apply for Deep South TREE PLANTING Award #9 and for FFGC FLOWERING TREE Award #48 and TREE  PLANTING ACHIEVEMENT Award #49.  Certificates are given at Convention to the top ten clubs/circles reporting the most TREES planted, given a-way, or sold but  remember to receive credit this Chairman must receive the TREE PLANTING RECORD by the  deadline on the form.

S  SHARE your trees.  Share your knowledge about trees.  Share the future by planting trees.
