Wekiva Youth Camp River Run and Riverfest
3rd Annual Wekiva Riverfest and Paintout
Saturday March 8, 2007
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Wekiwa Springs State Park
The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs will be participating in both the
"Run" and in the Wekiva Riverfest. Devon Villareal, one of our long-time campers and now a
volunteer at camp, will be representing us in the Run. We will be hosting a
table/booth on Saturday, March 8th all day to meet and greet folks from the Central Florida area,
and hope to reach out to families who may have children who would enjoy attending our
WekivaYouth Camp this summer. For Registration Forms, click on the FFGC
website and clickon FORMS. Members of the Sweetwater Oaks Garden Club will be assisting
Camp Chairman Jan Sillik and Camp Director John Morand in hosting at the
Riverfest.

The Friends of the Wekiva River invite you to join with us in celebrating Central Florida’s Wild and Scenic Wekiva River. The week of events will culminate with the
Over 1500 guests attended last year’s Wekiva Riverfest, and we are planning on more this year with additional advertising and recognition. Of course, the reason for Riverfest is to celebrate the Wekiva River
and it’s springs with education as our focus. A section of the Park
will be devoted to educational exhibits by numerous organizations. Children’s
Activities will be in one Pavilion, and the other Pavilion will feature
the work of plein air artists. Artists will be painting at sites along
the river and throughout the Park during the week preceding Riverfest. On Saturday their work will be displayed
for viewing and purchase. Once again, we will have wonderful bluegrass
and country music floating through the Park.
The Real
Florida 5K will take place in the park on March 1, 2008. The race
begins at the Recreation Field and will end at the Craft Hall.
Last year, 300 runners and walkers participated in the Race which is
sponsored by Wekiwa Spings State Park Community Support Organization,
the Wekiva Wilderness Trust.
Devon Villareal (Winter Park Garden Club), Mandy Newton (Winter Park
Garden Club), Kelly Gleaton (Winter Park Garden Club), John Morand
(Camp Director), Mike Shaw, Lois and Mark Silverburg (Sweetwater Oaks
Garden Club) will all be there to talk about Camp Wekiva!
We will have a table in the Craft Hall which will include a photo
display made by Sue Angle, a slide show by Mickey Quigley, healthy
snacks (Ants On A Log prepared by Mike Shaw) and not so healthy snacks
(sweet treats made by Mandy Newton) for the runners, brochures about
Camp, information on how to reach our website and access registration
paperwork, a donation jar, and we will be including in the prize
raffle, a free week at Camp Wekiva (a $275 value)!
Devon, Mandy, Kelly, and Mike have been campers, counselors,
lifeguards, circle leaders, and volunteers at Camp Wekiva. All of
our helpers for the Real Florida 5K will give the Race participants a
well rounded view of life at Wekiva and everything that our Camp has to
offer.
